DC - Pattern

In the midst of actual and impending big huge changes, I have been acutely aware of how much I value the anchor of daily routines.
Pattern is the theme Barbara Bee set for this week's Drawing Challenge.  I attempt to capture a few of my daily patterns here:
'Pattern' - pigma pen and Inktense pencils with water brush in 8x6 gamma daily drawing book
I hope you can stop over at Barbara's enticing and collage-filled blog to see the patterns developed by lots of other talented artists.
Are you keeping to a routine these days?

Chaos and Order DC

‘Chaos isn’t a pit.  Chaos is a ladder... Only the ladder is real.  The climb is all there is”.
-Little Finger, Game of Thrones

Well, how appropriate that I should run across this quote from one of my favorite stories of all time as I was doing research for this week’s Drawing Challenge.  And how fitting taken into my own  personal context, painting, where at the outset, chaos is always the order of the day.

'Chaos' - water soluable crayons, casein, and pigma pen in 8x6 sketchbook

chaos: silk organza ready for wash-out
order: silk (dupion and raw) after wash-out and dryer, folded for use
Thanks to Barbara Bee for this interesting challenge.  Please make sure to stop by her eye-popping blog to catch a glimpse of other interpretations of our theme by a variety of highly skilled artists.

Wishing you a week of which ever you prefer.
For me, I'll take the ladder.

Drawing Challenge: Smell

I have heard that of the five senses, our sense of smell is the most evocative of memory.   Who has not experienced being swept back in time on a memory aroma?  Here are some of my most favorite scents in no particular order, and illustrations of two.

Burning leaves
Oil paint and turpentine

Morning coffee
Cottonwood trees

A certain dirt road near Helena Montana, July 1985
Inside of an old trunk
Our woods in spring

Wood smoke
Baking bread
Thunderstorm

My Sailor’s skin

Our hostess for this olfactory Drawing Challenge is Barbara.  Hope you will be lured by the excellent artistic aroma interpretations emanating from her always amazing blog.
